Live transcription shows the conversation as text while you talk. Nothing reaches the visit until you have reviewed it.
Before you start
- Tell the patient, and anyone with them, that Terra is transcribing the visit, and get their agreement. Follow your state's consent rules and your practice policy.
- Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge or another Chromium browser, and allow microphone access for app.useterra.si.
Start a session
- Open the visit and go to the Transcript tab.
- Tick I confirm all parties consented to recording this visit. The start button stays disabled until you do.
- Choose a Session limit, the longest the session can run. Credits are reserved for this limit and the unused part is returned when you stop.
- Choose Start live transcription and allow the microphone if your browser asks. Terra asks for the microphone first, so a refused microphone never starts a session.
Words appear in grey while they are still forming and turn final when a speaker finishes a turn. Each turn has a neutral speaker label, such as A or B.
Stop and review
- Choose Stop. Terra finishes the last turn and closes the session.
- Assign a role to each speaker: Clinician, Patient, Interpreter, Caregiver, Other or Unknown. The first speaker starts as Clinician and the second as Patient; change them if that is wrong.
- Read and correct the text.
- Confirm the review, then choose Append to visit transcript or Replace visit transcript. To leave the visit unchanged, choose Discard live text.
After you apply the text, the visit returns to needs-review so the draft can be prepared from it.
Dictate into one section
The microphone next to Patient context, and next to each note section heading, opens the same panel for dictation. After you stop and review, choose Insert at cursor to place the text where your cursor was.
What happens to the audio
Audio streams from your browser directly to our speech provider over an encrypted connection. Terra does not store live audio. Terra stores the finalized turns on the visit so they survive a reload, and keeps the raw turns and the text you applied in the visit's history.
If the connection drops
Terra reconnects once and continues numbering turns from where it stopped. Text already finalized is kept. If the provider never confirmed the end of a session, its credits stay held until a practice manager reconciles them; see Credits held or a draft discarded.
